Celebrating Prof Bala Dogo


Professor Bala Dogo is the first professor to present an inaugural lecture in Kaduna State University. The lecture titled, Planning and Working with people: an essential strategy for Human Development  was delivered on 24th May, 2016.

Professor Dogo moved from Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna to Kaduna State University as a full Professor after favourable external assessment as the first professor in KASU. He resumed duty in KASU in 2006 as the HOD, Geography Department. He was appointed the Dean, Faculty of Science from 2008-2012. He was recalled from sabbatical leave from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria to establish the Post graduate school. He was appointed the pioneer Dean of Postgraduate school KASU.

He has a wealth of experience in teaching and supervising undergraduate and post graduate students. He has also served as external examiner of both undergraduate and post graduate programmes for various universities across the country. Similarly, he has assisted various universities in assessing their staff to the rank of associate professor and professors.

In addition to research and teaching, he also is into development work where he facilitated the establishment of Care & Action Research (CaRE-NGO) whose focus is grassroot development using participatory methods. He has travelled widely in the country doing one research or the other and partnered with researchers from outside and inside the country. He has received a number of training on higher education management like the International Deans Course by DAAD/DIES/AvH Foundation at Germany, Ethiopia and Ghana. Served as consultant to government and non-governmental agencies like World Bank, UNDP, UNICEF, Federal and State Ministries of Education, Health, Women Affairs, etc. Travelled very widely to USA, Britain, Japan, Kenya, India, Israel, Ethiopia, Ghana, Niger, Benin and Senegal. He is a regular Resource Person to Council for the Development of Social Research in Africa, CODESRIA, Dakar, Senegal. He was a Council member of Bingham University but currently a Board of Trustee member of the same University. He is also a member of Board of Governors, JETS, Jos. Currently, he is the one representing KASU Senate in the Governing Council of the University.

He has written and participated in writing and editing of 14 books, 16 journals articles and contributed in 16 chapters in different books. Presented over 100 seminar/conference articles both at home and abroad.
